NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP (Mawshynrut Circle) under the leadership of Arkhelos Diengan and the FKJGP (Nongstoin Circle) under the leadership of Kyntiew Syiem on Thursday inspected the Shakambari Ferro Alloy Pvt Ltd unit at Rwiang, 20 kms from Nongstoin.
During the inspection they found out that all the employees of the Company consisting of 26 staff, 9 security guards and 67 labourers were without any working permits or labourer license.
The Assistant Manager of the Unit, Manoj Kumar Chowdhury however had a residential certificate stating that he resided in Meghalaya.
When asked as to why these people did not possess any permits, he replied that the contractors that supplied these workers had taken their papers and permits into their possession.
The FKJGP lambasted the officials of the Company for not keeping the permits with them and asked them to leave the area and to return only when they had their papers in their possession.
Accordingly they were loaded onto a truck and sent back to their native places.
Arkhelos Diengan said that they would shut the unit until they produced legitimate papers.
He also reminded that during the public hearing of the Unit in 2010, the Company had assured jobs to the people of the area.
But he said that he surprisingly found that only 8 locals were employed in the Company that too as porters.
He said that the post of security guards could also have been given to the people if the other aspects were too technical for them.
An angry Arkhelos said that the Company had violated not only the laws of the land but had also violated the terms of the agreement that was promised during the public hearing which held on April 28, 2010.
These rampant inspections in West Khasi Hills Districts have brought to light several loopholes and sudden rise in the influx of migrant workers without any papers.
