Ban on public worship

Shillong: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills has prohibited opening of religious places/places of worship and all religious congregation in the district including Shillong Urban Agglomeration, Sohra civil sub-division and Pynursla C&RD Blocks till further orders.
Meanwhile, Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Mihngi in a press release has expressed gratitude to the government for not re-opening places of worship, saying the move will help contain the spread of COVID-19 among believers.
The Synod has urged all local churches within its denomination to comply with the order.
It also asked believers to strictly adhere to the directions issued by government.
The Synod also expressed gratitude towards the government for its efforts in combating and containing the spread of the virus.
As a token of its gratitude, the Synod contributed Rs 2 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
