ROSEAU ( Dominica): Veteran left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul became the most capped Test player for the West Indies after he was named in the playing XI for third and final Test match against India starting Wednesday.

Chanderpaul has now played 133 Test matches for his country surpassing former captain Courtney Walsh’s record of 132 Test matches. The legendary Brian Lara has played in 131 Tests for the West Indies.

The Guyanese left-hander who bats with an unconventional open-chested stance has so far scored 9228 runs at an average of 48.56 with 22 centuries and 55 half-centuries.

He has also played 268 ODIs scoring 8778 runs at 40 plus average. He has hit 11 centuries along with 59 half-centuries.

Someone who is known for his defensive approach, Chanderpaul recently courted controversy by publicly declaring that the national selectors were forcing him to quit.

After burying the hatchet with the WICB, he returned to the squad for the Test series against Pakistan and India. (PTI)
