SHILLONG: The Myntri of Hima Mylliem, Midnight Kharlukhi, has expressed concern over the demand of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong (association of traditional heads) to recognise it as a constitutional body.
The Synjuk wanted the recognition from the state government as well as from the Centre. The demand, however, has raised few eyebrows.
Speaking to reporters, Kharlukhi said the headmen are recognised under the Mylliem Act 2007 and Mylliem Rules which are notified in the state government’s gazette. The two acts empower the headmen who are working under the jurisdiction of the Hima Mylliem, said Kharlukhi.
On the other hand, in view of the situation prevailing due to COVID-19, the Hima Mylliem said that the existing Dorbar Shnong will continue to serve as headmen until further orders.
The Hima Mylliem will also launch its own website with the list of headmen.
It may be mentioned that the Hima has also decided to donate two quarantine centers in Shillong area.
