SHILLONG: Jaintia Students Union (JSU) has demanded payment of ex-gratia to the families of the six persons who died after consumption of poisonous mushroom.
In a statement issued here, the union has said the family of the six deceased are facing hardships following the untimely demise of the breadwinner.
The president of the JSU Shillong Circle, Treiborlang R Suchen has submitted and placed before the state government a letter of request for allocation of ex-gratia to the families of victims before the office of SDO Amlarem Sub-Division and to local MLA of Amlarem constituency, Lahkmen Rymbui.
Six persons died during April-May this year at Lamin village, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya after they had consumed poisonous mushroom.
Suchen said that he had consulted the matter with the Headman of the village Golden Gashnga and was informed that the Government till date had provided any financial support to families of the six deceased.
