GUWAHATI: Troops of the Indian Army, in a joint operation with Assam Police, apprehended an ULFA (Independent) over ground worker near Ledo in Tinsukia district on Tuesday, an official statement said.

“Based on specific inputs, the team launched an operation in the area and apprehended the over ground worker of the outfit, identified as Sachin alias Hontu Borgohain. The person is suspected to be involved in extortion activities for the faction in the district,” the statement said.

The team also recovered one .22mm pistol along with one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition from the individual.

“The apprehension of the over ground worker has severely hampered  activities of the proscribed group in the Upper Assam district. The individual along with recovered stores has been handed over to Ledo police station for further investigation,” it added.
