Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday compared his short tenure as the head of the ruling BJP to a T-20 cricket match.

Having only ten months to go before the next Assembly elections, Mr Shettar said he has to ensure that the government’s performance leaps ahead like a T-20 batsman who relies on boundaries and sixers.

“Ones and twos will not be enough” as the time is too short, Mr Shettar said while participating in a ‘meet the press’ programme of the Bangalore Reporters Guild and the Press Club Bangalore.

Mr Shettar said he has to hasten the progress of various schemes and programmes and ensure that the government was responsive to the aspirations of the people. He said the government would prioritise its programme and act accordingly. Asked whether he act as a puppet of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Mr Shettar said as the responsible head of the government he would act according to his individual self.

When a reporter pointed out that Mr Yeddyurappa had taken the credit of the government announcing Rs 25,000 crore waiver on farmer loans, he said that the Government had acted upon various suggestions made by the legislators during the recent session.

When asked to react to the comment of Mr Yeddyurappa that Mr Shettar had not thought of becoming Chief Minister and he had a role to play in it, Mr Shettar quipped “I came to politics by chance, I became a legislator by chance and I was made a minister by Chance”. (UNI)
