SHILLONG: The 76-year-old man from Ri Bhoi district, who had falsely tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, passed away at his village on Friday at around 5.30 pm, a delayed report said.
The funeral was held at the Catholic Church cemetery in the village on Saturday.
Consultant in the Medicine Department of the Dr H Gordon Roberts’ Hospital, Dr Meban Kharkongor, who was treating the 76-year-old man, said that he had heard about it though no one from the family has informed him.
Kharkongor said that the patient had been suffering from a chronic lung disease which had nothing to do COVID-19. “After thorough investigation, we had come to the conclusion that it was a false positive case of COVID-19,” he said.
He said that the patient had insisted on going home after staying at the hospital for more than 14 days.
The patient was discharged from the hospital on Monday at his and his family’s request.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War, also confirmed that the 76- year-old man passed away on Friday.
