GUWAHATI: The United Garo Autonomous Council Movement Committee (UGACMC), Assam, has appealed to the Centre and state government to impose a blanket ban on Chinese products while pledging to launch a campaign against such items in the state.
In this regard, the committee has submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister, Union home and defence ministers and chief minister of Assam on Tuesday.
Paying tribute to the 20 martyrs who lost their lives in the line of duty at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh combatting PLA troops earlier this month, UGACMC (Assam state) chairman, Alex K. Sangma, said that the Garo community of Assam “stands by the brave Indian Armymen who are safeguarding the country’s sovereignty in harsh conditions along the northern and north eastern frontiers.”
“The entire Garo community of Assam is ready to volunteer when the nation needs them,” he said.
Sangma further said that the committee would soon launch an awareness campaign against China-made goods and aggressively promote the “Vocal for Local” call made by the Prime Minister.
“Replacing China-made products with local products will be a challenge. But if we pledge to boycott Chinese products and to buy Indian products, it will create a room for Indian market,” he said.
