SHILLONG: A total number 48 solar panels installed in the kitchen garden of historic Raj Bhavan were found stolen on Saturday.

While terming it as a major lapse on the part of the security personnel posted at Raj Bhavan, a senior police official said thieves certainly had come in a big vehicle to load those heavy solar panels worth Rs 6.19 lakh.

According to sources, the solar panels were meant to provide additional electricity to the sprawling Raj Bhavan.

“Altogether 130 solar panels have been installed in Raj Bhavan by Hyderabad Batteries Limited to generate 30 kw electricity,” sources said.

Raj Bhavan authorities have lodged an FIR in this connection.
