Shillong: The long-cherished dream of Meghalaya to have a separate High Court has been fulfilled following Presidential assent to the North Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Bill on June 7.
However, the State Government is yet to receive the formal notification from Supreme Court and the Law and Justice Ministry to make the separate High Court operational.
“A separate high court for Meghalaya is ready to function but the same will become operation only after receiving a notification from the apex court”, official sources said here on Monday. Stating that infrastructure is in place, sources said “For a separate high court to function effectively, more posts need to be created”. “At least 200 posts are needed to be created,” sources added.
