SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the recent incident at Lawsohtun in the city should not be given a communal colour while asserting the government is responsible for all the citizens.
“We have been very clear that nobody is above the law and that the law will take its own course in any situation,” the chief minister said.
Speaking to media persons here recently, the chief minister said that the protection of citizens was the responsibility of the state government and it was committed to it.
“For us as a government, protection of our citizens be they from any community or tribe is our responsibility,” he said.
The chief minister’s comments came in the wake of the alleged unprovoked Lawsohtun incident where five boys were assaulted by a group of over 20 people with iron rods and sticks.
What followed next was an all-out discourse on social media platforms which took on a communal colour.
Police have so far picked up 11 people for interrogation in this connection.
