GUWAHATI: Technical teams of Oil India Limited worked overnight on war-footing to restore the damage caused by incessant rain and flooding at the Baghjan gas well site and allow resumption of debris removal operations from Monday morning.
Experts from the overseas firm, Alert along with ONGC and OIL’s technical teams, were at the site to supervise the debris removal wok.
Incessant rain over the past few days has hampered operations at the site. However, water level of the Dangori river near site has started receding on Monday with one of the pump stations at the river bank ready for delivery.
Site preparation activities of bio remediation process of the affected areas under a TERI study have also been affected by the inclement weather.
“Bio material for bio remediation process received and application of the same will be started once water level recedes in the affected areas,” an official statement said.
Meanwhile, 12 oil wells are still shut following blockades by residents and organisations at Baghjan EPS (early production set-up) since July 7, 2020, resulting in a loss of 2564 metric tonnes of crude oil and 8.5 million metric standard cubic metres of natural gas in the past six days, official sources informed.
“One more work-over location was stopped yesterday. Blockades at three drilling locations and three work-over locations still continue,” the statement said.
