SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union – Shillong Circle, has urged the government to disclose the names of the people with COVID-19 for effective contact tracing.

In a statement issued here, the union has appealed for the disclosure of the name of people infected, for effective contact tracing.

According to the statement, disclosure of names will ensure that people who have been in close contact with the infected may be able to disclose their contact and to avoid community spread transmission of COVID 19 and also to ensure adherence of precautionary steps or protocols laid down.

“This is a call for transparency in giving information. With regards to the fiasco relating to the marriage of some individuals, it is suggested that video footage and photographic evidences from the wedding party will aid in the contact tracing exercise”, he said.

Secondly, the union has urged the state government to confirm whether Covid-19 tests for armed personnel such as the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Army is made mandatory or not and whether the quarantine protocol of 14 days is followed or not by armed personnel when entering.

It reminded the government that the union had urged the government to make screening of armed personnel mandatory.

The union said that the government should cooperate with the public first and questioned as to why their suggestion was not accepted.

“Movement of force personnel has to be allowed only after a proper certification by state health authorities. We need answers and more so in action”, he said.
