TURA: In the wake of two persons testing positive for COVID-19 in South Garo Hills, a massive awareness drive on COVID-19 protocols was launched across different locations of Baghmara on Monday by the Medical department and the District Information & Public Relations Office.
The two COVID-19 patients are under medical care and quarantined.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, MT Sangma, said that there is no reason to panic while urging citizens to follow the health protocols strictly.
She said that there are four check points — at Dimapara, Nengja, Sangknigre and Maheshkhola — in the district to monitor people coming from outside.
During the awareness drive, District Tuberculosis Officer and the caretaker of District Corona Care Center, Dr Bijay Debbarma, sensitised the people on different ways to contain the COVID-19 and discussed the protocols.
Shopkeepers and salon owners were also instructed to follow certain protocols.
The Circular Inspector, Subir Sangma, also briefed on adopting certain rules and regulations that are to be followed while going out.
The official also informed that as per the new notification, fine of up to Rs 500 or more will be imposed on anyone found not wearing a mask.
