SHILLONG: Incessant downpour on Monday caused landslides in six villages of West Khasi Hills while the afternoon rain in Shillong turned into a deterrent for people to venture out boldly during the 48-hour lockdown.
Nonetheless, some residents in Nongmynsong were seen out in the rain and vehicles waded through the heavily water-logged roads.
Polo market had been flooded and Wah Umkhrah rose to a dangerous level.
As per the reports provided by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Khasi Hills, heavy rainfall and landslides occurred in six villages under Nongstoin, Mawthadraishan and Mawshynrut C&RD blocks.
Further, the National Highway 127 B (NH 127 B), connecting Nongstoin and Tura, was also damaged following incessant rain.
As many as four houses (two partially) were damaged and a total crop area of 10 hectares was affected in the last 24 hours, the DDMA said in a report.
