Shillong: Deficit school teachers on Thursday went on a two-day mass casual leave following the government’s failure to address their demands which includes among others release of the pending 30 per cent arrears.

“The mass casual leave was successful in all the districts of the State and we will continue with the agitation tomorrow (Friday),” organising secretary of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (KJDST&EA), Kular Khongjirem, said.

Khongjirem said the Association would hold a meeting in Shillong on Friday which will be attended by representatives from Garo Hills to discuss their next course of action.

“So far, we haven’t received any reports from the government with regard to our demands and so we will continue to pressurize the State Government,” he added.

The agitating teachers are also demanding timely paymwent of their salaries.
