Kohima: In a strident reaction to the exodus of North Easterners from South India, Naga Hoho, the apex traditional body of all Naga tribes, has said it was time to unite and ‘flush out’ illegal immigrants to safeguard the future from the hands of ‘aliens’.

In a statement Naga Hoho Publicity Secretary C. Daipao said the situation was ‘another challenge’ posed by the immigrants and if the governments failed to take action, people in ‘mainland’ India have to take a stand that North Eastern states were not an ‘integral part’ of India.

‘The process to check illegal migration into the North East remains unfinished despite various efforts made at the national level,’ Daipao said.

The issue had been exploited for political mileage, he added.

The Naga Hoho asked the prime minister and chief ministers of NE to protect the life and property of the region’s people following the tension caused due to threat and intimation meted out to people hailing from the Northeast.

He also pointed to the statement of former Assam Governor Lt Gen.(Retd.) S K Sinha, who had said that if unabated infiltration of foreigners was allowed to continue the situation in Assam will be worse than that of Kashmir in days to come. (UNI)
