SHILLONG: Health Minister AL Hek on Monday asked the Opposition Congress to desist from mudslinging after the party accused the MDA government of inept handling of the COVID-19 crisis.
“It is very inappropriate for the Opposition leaders to say such a thing as they are also public representatives,” Hek said.
He said the Opposition should understand that they have equal responsibility as they too are fighting for the people and the state.
Making it clear that there is no room for politics at this juncture, Hek said,” They are playing the Opposition role to just criticise the government which is not healthy at this juncture”.
He said the government was working day in and day out to tame the pandemic and health workers, community leaders and others were also putting in a lot of effort.
“The Opposition should not just focus on one or two mistakes that may happen here and there, but look at the larger picture and the steps being taken by the state government also”, Hek said.
“One or two mistakes are bound to happen. Nobody is perfect, but that doesn’t mean they can paint the entire effort with the same brush,” he said.
Reiterating that this is not the time for blame game, Hek said,” Such statements are unwanted and uncalled for”.
It may be mentioned that just last week, the Opposition leaders had expressed satisfaction over the state government’s tackling of the situation.
