SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union has sought response from the Health department on the recruitment of doctors and others in view of the need for maximum utilisation of manpower in the sector amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a letter to Health Minister AL Hek and DHS (MI) Dr Aman War, the Union said that the Directorate of Health Services had issued an advertisement on March 30 calling in candidates to apply for the posts of “MBBS Doctors/AYUSH Doctors/Laboratory Technicians/OT Technicians” to combat COVID-19, and asked the concerned authority to follow up on the matter.
The Union demanded to know the status of the appointment on this notice as three months have passed since the notice was issued.
The union observed that the government needs to exercise maximum utilisation of human resources when available, especially during a time as this.
JSU president Shillong Circle, Treiborlang R Suchen, said that the government must recruit more health workers as the state witnesses rise in the number of COVID-19 infections.
Hence, it becomes pertinent to ask how many people are there to treat the patients, he added.
“Any eye-wash strategy needs to stop. We call for ‘facta, non verba’ (deeds not words)”, he said.
