SHILLONG: The “biggest challenge” faced while dealing with foreign nationals in prisons or childcare institutions is to identify their country of origin and the subsequent repatriation.
Dwelling on this, a webinar was conducted for panel lawyers and para legal volunteers to respond to such cases on Friday.
The webinar was organised by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI).
In the training session, the topics on foreign nationals in prisons, foreign national in childcare institution and refugees and asylum seekers in detention were discussed.
The programme was attended by panel lawyers and para legal volunteers of the District Legal Services Authorities, superintendents and jailors of state prisons, NGOs, panel lawyers of the High Court Legal Services Committee, District Child Protection Officers of Meghalaya and students of Shillong Law College.
