Rapid response teams help accelerate COVID test pace in Arunachal

GUWAHATI: Rigorous testing by rapid response teams in Arunachal Pradesh has ensured over 9000 rapid antigen tests in the Itanagar capital region in just about a week, as the state health department aims to break the COVID-19 transmission chain.

As part of a robust mechanism to contain the spread of corona virus, 20 dedicated rapid response teams have been engaged in as many wards in the Itanagar capital region (comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli,and Banderdewa) to test primary and secondary contacts of COVID patients since Monday.

The Arunachal Pradesh government, in view of a spurt in COVID cases has extended complete lockdown in the state till August 3, and till then these teams would continue with their intensive screening exercise.

Official sources stated that the teams tested 2223 people till afternoon on Saturday, of which 29 were found COVID-19 positive. The highest number of cases (18) was reported from Dokum Colony, Naharlagun.

Lauding the rapid response teams, chief minister Pema Khandu tweeted, “Kudos to entire RR (Rapid Response) team for their rigorous exercise of “trace, test, treat”,  including random testing in state capital to stop the virus.”

Khandu also informed that all truck drivers and their staff are required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 tests before they enter Arunachal Pradesh.

Rapid antigen tests are being conducted on truckers at Banderdewa interstate checkgate.
