TURA: The number of positive coronaviurs cases in West Garo Hills has risen to 18 after four persons were detected with the virus on Thursday.
Among the four new cases, two of the infected persons had illegally entered from neighbouring Assam.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh announced that a woman along with her son and daughter-in-law tested positive while in a separate case another man who also violated COVID-19 protocols by coming from the neighbouring state was found to have the virus.
All four cases belong to Hallidayganj town in the plain belt region of the district.
“The lady had come by boat on July 21 and did not inform the authorities. She came to visit her daughter-in-law who is pregnant. As per protocol she should have informed surveillance teams and gone straight into quarantine but instead went straight to meet her son and daughter in law in Hallidayganj. Now all three are positive,” informed Singh.
The fourth positive person had also clandestinely entered Garo Hills in a vehicle and his presence was alerted by local people.
Another Health Centre sealed in Garo Hills. Meanwhile, authorities have on Thursday seated the Jeldupara primary health centre located at Hallidayganj for contact tracing and sanitisation.
“The pregnant lady who has tested positive for COVID-19 had visited the hospital for check up so we have locked it down and begun contract tracing and sanitising the hospital,” Singh said.
The deputy commissioner also informed that among the 18 positive cases, 13 are inside district corona care centres, 2 are in Tura civil hospital and 3 others are in the BSF corona centre.
