Agartala: Tripura government has decided to construct a four-lane bridge over the river Feni in Sabroom, state’s southernmost border subdivision.
Not only the 15-long meter bridge on the river Feni, the government has also mulled to build four-lane approach roads for both sides to ensure better trafficking system.
The decision has been taken at a meeting on the proposed bridge held at Civil Secretariat here Tuesday.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar presided over the meeting, Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury, Chief Secretary SK Panda, Principal Secretary LK Gupta and representatives from IL&FS were remained present there.
Representatives of IL&FS conducted a video projection in which they showed technical aspect, the site for the bridge, location of Sabroom LCS and approach road for the bridge.
The bridge will connect Ramgarh (Bangladesh) and Sabroom will be four-lane.
Tripura has been demanding for a bridge over the river Feni for long time. Recently, a decision to construct a bridge over the river Feni was taken at a highest level meeting last year.
If the bridge is constructed, not only Tripura the entire NE region will be beneficial by way of using Chittagong Port in Bangladesh.
The visit of Dy Indian High Commissioner assumes significance as the bilateral trade will resume very shortly probably before the Durga puja.
