SHILLONG: The UDP’s decision to allot ticket to a government contractor HB Nongsiej to contest from Mawthadraishan in the 2013 Assembly election has created rumblings within the party.

UDP Mawthadraishan circle vice-president SW Marwein on Wednesday said the party workers did not recognize Nongsiej as a member of the UDP and are disappointed with the party top brass for not taking the views of the supporters of both JC Diengan and Nongsiej into consideration before taking the final call.

Interestingly JC Diengan was another ticket aspirant.

“We are not going to support Nongsiej in the upcoming polls,” said Marwein adding that Nongspung UDP legislator and Social Welfare Minister JA Lyngdoh played a big role in denying ticket to Diengan.

Marwein, however, informed that despite being unhappy with the decision of the party leadership, Diengan’s supporters would remain with the party.

Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to UDP general secretary BG Momin, UDP’s West Khasi Hills unit president K Lyngkhoi said that Nongsiej’s membership was yet to be accepted by the district committee.

It may be mentioned that the crisis in the UDP is not restricted to Mawthadraishan and the party is facing an uphill task in deciding candidate for Nongthymmai as well.

Sitting KHADC member Latiplang Kharkongor and Jemino Mawthoh are the contenders from Nongthymmai.
