SHILLONG: The much-awaited Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) at Mawdiangdiang has been allotted more funds to augment the infrastructure of the centre.
The multi-crore facility is almost ready with finishing and furnishing work being under way.
This was revealed during a visit by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and F Kharkongor, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Arts & Culture, to take stock of the work related to the multi-crore arts and cultural centre in New Shillong Township.
Accentuating the infrastructure of the prestigious centre, sanctioned for Rs 108 crore, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has decided to sanction an additional Rs 12.85 crore to augment the two auditoriums — black box and little theatre — with light and sound show.
The cost of installation of light and sound system has been given to the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Rs 10 crore. The State Level Empowered Committee, which recommended the proposal, is awaiting the approval of NEC.
The officials there informed Conrad that the construction and handing over of the projects will be completed within this financial year, adding that physical progress of about 83 per cent has been completed.
