SHILLONG: A Government delegation deputed by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to Bengaluru comprising of Meghalaya Information & Public Relations Minister AT Mondal, Water Resources Minister AL Hek and Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh arrived in Bangalore on Friday evening and immediately called upon Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister in charge Home, R Ashok, at his official residence.
The main purpose of the visit of the delegation is to get a first-hand knowledge of the situation in Bangalore pertaining to the mass migration of the North East people, including students from Meghalaya, back to their home States due to some perceived threats by some anti-social elements recently.
From Bangalore, they delegation will move to Pune and then to Mumbai.
During the meeting with the Karnataka Deputy CM, Mondal expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Karnataka for their sincere efforts in providing security to the North East people including those from Meghalaya residing in Bangalore and throughout Karnataka.
He also thanked Ashok for his personal intervention by meeting the North East people himself and convincing them to stay and for providing them necessary security.
The Karnataka deputy CM informed the visiting delegation that Karnataka Police are working round the clock to ensure security to all and to see that no anti-social elements raise their ugly head and create panic among the people.
It may be mentioned that Ashok will be visiting Assam on Saturday and hold meetings with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO).

It is learnt that Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma will join the team in Mumbai on Monday.
