SHILLONG: Members of every community came together to the streets of Shillong on Friday evening with a message of peace and harmony in view of the recent turmoil in Southern states and in Assam.
The peace march was organised by the Social work department of Martin Luther Christian University with a democratic approach to inculcate a spirit of peace and harmony in the entire country. A speaker in the occasion, Khalid Khan asked the youths to use the medium of social networking sites such as “Facebook” to promote peace and brotherhood among all communities instead of building walls between them. The former Co chairman of the State Planning Board John Kharshiing while underlining the need for peace asserted that a combined effort from all would definitely help in bringing back peace in the country. Prior to the rally, the students formed a human chain of “World Peace”. The prayer march started from the Madan Iewrynghep and concluded at Khyndailad where peace songs and prayers were held for bringing peace in the country.
