Kohima: The Naga Students’ Federation(NSF) has decided to impose a 12-hour ‘total bandh’ from 0500 hours on September 6 in all the Naga inhabited areas.
The decision was taken fololowing the North East Students’ Organization’s resolution to impose total bandh in the entire North East Region.
In a press release the NSF said the bandh is to express resentment at the ‘threats, humiliation, mental and physical harassment and atrocities’ being meted to the people of North East in different parts of mainland India.
The federation has demanded immediate ‘comprehensive policies and actions’ to ‘contain the curse’ of what is now the problem of illegal immigration into the NE region.
‘The bandh is also called to demand from the Central Ministry immediate establishment of technical institutions of Engineering and Medical colleges in Nagaland.
The NSF will also be traveling to Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts of Assam to express solidarity with the affected people in the recent ethnic clashes,’ the release said.
Meanwhile, a Joint Consultative Meeting held in Kohima on Friday, recommended setting up of an Expert Committee to study and review the proposed Draft Modalities of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, prepared by the Grant Thornton Advisory Pvt. Ltd. which was distributed by the Cabinet Sub-Cabinet and the draft modality submitted by the Kyong Hoho to the Cabinet Sub-Committee.
It recommended that the NSF would submit its recommendation of the modality on Oil and Natural Resources to the Nagaland government after necessary approvals. The federation will pursue with the state government for Re- Amendment of the Act under Section 65 of the Nagaland Ownership and transfer of land and its Resources 1990, it said. (UNI)
