MAWKYRWAT: The Rangthong Primary Health Centre (PHC) in South West Khasi Hills, which was temporarily shut following the visit of a COVID-19 patient on August 4, reopened on Tuesday after thorough sanitisation.
The state Health department has temporarily deputed Dr. P Warjri from Ranikor CHC to Rangthong PHC and also deputed a staff nurse, a pharmacist, a multipurpose health worker and a grade-IV staff to keep the OPD functional in the absence of the permanent staff of the PHC who are under quarantine.
Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, while announcing resumption of medical services at the PHC, said, “We understand the need to reopen the PHC that caters to 17 villages consisting of 1705 families with a total population of 9200, and if we delay in reopening, it would have led to problems for the locals”.
Laloo asserted that it was safe to visit the PHC since all hospitals and health care facilities strictly follow protocols and all staff and medical personnel have been trained to follow the guidelines.
The DC suggested that headmen of different villages under Rangthong PHC and the Community COVID-19 Management Committees should encourage the people to come to the PHC for check-up and treatment.
