NCC to expand wings in state

SHILLONG: Forty higher secondary schools and 15 colleges in Meghalaya have been identified for the expansion of NCC.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this in his Independence Day address on Saturday.
According to the proposal, the NCC expansion plan will benefit seven border districts — East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.
The defence spokesman, Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said it is a 100% central funded scheme and the actual allotment of NCC vacancies of cadets will be done on merit.
There will be 5445 additional vacancies for Meghalaya taking the strength to 11621 over next three years.
Under the scheme, two minor units, the 41 Artillery battery and 42 Meghalaya Signal company, will be upgraded to a battalion strength and Meghalaya NCC Battalion will be getting additional manpower.
