KHLIEHRIAT: Several NGOs of East Jainitia Hills district has urged the district administration to set up a separate cell for women at Ladrymbai police outpost.

The NGOs — Hynniewtrep National Youth Front- Khliehriat Zone , Jiañtia People Development Organization and Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement-East Jaintia Hills Unit – have jointly submitted a memorandum to the East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police in this connection.

According to the HHYF unit chief Julius Nongtdu, Ladrymbai outpost covers a huge area comprising more than 40 villages. “It encounters several women-related cases but due to non availability of women police personnel within this outpost, such cases take a long time to be solved,” he said.

“In emergency situation which requires the presence of women police personnel, this outpost has to rely for women police to arrive from Khliehriat police station,” Nongtdu said

Besides demanding setting up of women police cell at Ladrymbai at the earliest, the NGOs also urged the administration to increase the number of women police personnel in the district.

JYF warns against drunken drivers: The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), East Jaintia Hills (EJH) has warned the taxi drivers who drive their vehicles in an inebriated condition.

The JYF unit president, Niwasly Rymbai informed that stern action would be taken against those who drive their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

“We request the general people particularly passengers to immediately inform leaders of the JYF if they come across any driver plying his vehicle in an inebriated condition,” Rymbai said. The NGO also urged the District Transport department to take stern action against those who drive their vehicles without valid driving license.
