Imphal: The All Manipur Students, Union (AMSU) on Monday observed the “47th Hunger Marchers’ Day” commemorating the event when four young students were killed by security forces during the August 27, 1965 protest spearheaded by the student union against artificial scarcity of food grains in Manipur.

Hundreds of students paid floral tributes at the Pishum Chinga Macha students’ Memorial Complex where the main function of the event was held in the morning.

The procession started from Pishum crossed Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai and Nagamapal and culminated at the campus of DM College where a public meeting was held.

AMSU general secretary Deepanjit Ningthouja, gave the keynote address, underscored the need for taking more interest in the struggle for survival leaving rather than pursuing education by students and cited that the basic right to education cannot be acheived without right to life.

He appealed to the people to strive together for a prosper state and noted change can be brought by unity. (NNN)
