SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) has given the government two months’ deadline to start the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to ensure that the project is completed within time.
The organisation, led by its general secretary Dundee Cliff Khongsit, on Wednesday wrote to PHE Minster Samlin Malngiang urging him to direct his department to expedite the implementation of the Mission.
The FKJGP said that the Functional Household Tap Connection has been provided under JJM for which 2024 is the target year. The organisation sought an explanation from the minister on the tardy progress in the implementation of the scheme. In their discussion with the minister, the FKJGP also provided the government with its suggestions in the matter. Malngiang assured the organisation that he will look into the proper implementation of the scheme while also welcoming their suggestions.
The Jal Jeevan Mission is a project funded by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, which envisages providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
