Abducted child rescued from kidnappers in Garo Hills

TURA: Police in the plainbelt Phulbari-Rajabala region of West Garo Hills district have successfully rescued an abducted child and arrested a kidnapper on Sunday.
Ten year old master Elias Hussain of Nalbari village under Phulbari police station went missing on the 18th of August compelling his guardian to approach the police.
Shortly after the disappearance of the boy, the family began to receive calls demanding ransom for his safe release.
” Sensing the seriousness of the issue, we immediately constituted a team headed by Addl SP Tura assisted by OC Phulbari, IC Rajabala and other officers and personnel, in close liason with our Assam counterparts,” narrated West Garo Hills superintendent of police MGR Kumar.
The police chief revealed that in the course of the investigation and a thorough analysis of various technical and intelligence inputs indicated the involvement of a criminal from neighbouring Assam.
The criminal identified as Ashraful Islam, hailing from a village under Sukchar police station in Assam was arrested by police and during confession confessed to his involvement in the abduction of the child.
At the break of dawn on Sunday, a police rescue team lead by the officer of Phulbari police station, assisted by officer in charge of Rajabala police outpost and personnel from Hallidayganj police station conducted a joint raid with the arrested criminal leading them to the hideout.
The teams were able to rescue the child unharmed from the house of another member of the gang inside Fershakandi village under Rajabala outpost. Operations are continuing to nab the other members of the gang who are currently on the run.
Lauding his team for their dedication, perseverance and hardwork, district SP MGR Kumar said, “They not only rescued the child unharmed, but were also successful in arresting one of the accused and ensuringa that no ransom was paid by victim’s family.”
