Police arrest five in city assault case

SHILLONG: Police have arrested five persons in connection with an assault case which took place in Laitumkhrah, a statement issued here on Wednesday said.
After the alleged assault on the complainant, Arnell Steward Nongdhar, the police and a team of SOT personnel, with the help of some witnesses, identified four of the accused who were subsequently arrested, the statement said.
Owing to the situation arising out of pandemic, the accused were sent for medical examination as well as COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), following which they were kept in a quarantine centre.
The accused will be produced in court and remanded to police custody after receipt of the COVID-19 test results.
In a fresh development, one more accused was arrested on Wednesday, taking the number of arrests made to five.
The police are making all efforts to catch the rest of the culprits, the statement added.
