SHILLONG: NCP national observer for the Northeastern states, Robert Kharshiing, on Thursday informed that the party’s legal team based in New Delhi has sent a legal notice to the 12 NCP MLAs of the State who have merged with the National People’s Party (NPP) floated by Purno A Sangma.

The NCP legal team has also sent a letter to Speaker of the State Assembly, Charles Pyngrope, urging him to disqualify the 12 legislators under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

“The letters have been dispatched from New Delhi so it will take some time before it reaches the MLAs,” Kharshiing added.

The NCP had 13 legislators in the State with the exception of suspended MLA Adolf Lu Hitler R Marak, out of which 12 legislators have merged with the NPP. Sanbor Shullai who opted to remain with the NCP has since been appointed the party’s state unit convenor.

Kharshiing also informed that options were still open for the ‘rebel’ legislators to return to the party.
