GUWAHATI: The bodies of two youths, including that of a promising 20-year-old-cricketer, were recovered from the deep waters of a waterfall in Karbi Anglong district on Monday.

According to reports, the duo, Bibhakar Nag, who represented Assam in the under-16 and under-19 age categories, and his friend, Sudip Bagchi, were missing since Sunday, after they had gone to visit the Kakochang waterfall in the central Assam district.

Sources said a search was thereafter carried out by a team from the State Disaster Response Force and their bodies were recovered from the waterfall under Dolamara police station.

The duo hailed from Golaghat district in Upper Assam.

A right-arm medium pace bowler, Bibhakar had played for Assam in the Vijay Merchant Trophy during the 2015-16 season. Thereafter, he represented the state under-19 teams in the 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

“In the last season (2019-20), he took 18 wickets in four matches. In the match against Tamil Nadu, Bibhakar played a key role in Assam’s victory, claiming 10 wickets (both innings),” a statement by Assam Cricket Association (ACA) issued here on Monday, informed.

In a condolence message, the office-bearers of the association expressed shock at the untimely demise of the young cricketer who was a fourth semester student of Golaghat Commerce College.
