Shillong: The CID has taken cognizance of the case of one Hepbaiawanlang Wahlang (18) from Maroit village at Mairang who went missing on July 25, following complaints by the girl’s family that no prompt investigation was conducted by personnel of the Mairang Police Station.

The family of the missing girl has alleged that she was abducted by one person from Assam who was last seen with her on the day she went missing.

Narrating the story, they mentioned that the girl was returning from her college (Tirot Sing Memorial College, Mairang) at 8 am when a non-tribal merchant, who is known to the girl, approached her after which she went missing.

The family further informed that the girl had sent an SMS to one of her friends asking her boyfriend to pick her up from Shillong and later in the afternoon, she again called her family members from Nongpoh asking them to come for her but the conversation did not last long since the call was disconnected.

“An FIR was filed with the Mairang PS on July 31 but despite providing police with all the details, they did proceed with the investigation suspecting that she might had eloped with the merchant,” one of Wahlang’s family members said on condition of anonymity.
