SHILLONG: An Upper Division Assistant (UDA) of the office of the Commissioner of Transport has alleged that the Commissioner of Transport SN Marak had slapped her in her office chamber during office hours on Wednesday, prompting fellow staff to go on a mass casual leave on Friday protesting against the Commissioner’s highhandedness.

The staffs have also taken up the matter with the Chief Secretary demanding an immediate apology from the Commissioner.

The staffs have also decided to continue with the mass casual leave even on Monday if the official did not apologize.

When contacted, Commissioner of Transport, SN Marak denied having assaulted the UDA.

“Why should I slap such an old lady? The allegations against me are totally baseless,” she said.

Marak clarified that she had only raised her voice against the UDA in the best interest of work, while adding that shouting is ‘a part of any work culture’.

She also stated that she has discussed the matter with the Principal Secretary of the Transport department.

“May be they don’t like me as I am strict in work matters,” she added.
