TURA: Facing widespread accusation of central funds misappropriation on one front and a revolt by its employees, who are demanding the payment of their salaries for last two years, on the other, the Executive Committee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has placed under suspension the president of the non gazetted employees’ union this week.
The secretary of the GHADC EC, state civil services officer, Rikse Marak, on Monday, issued a notice suspending the employees’ union president, Senora Johny Arengh, with effect from September 11.
The authorities had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the union president and his reply was termed “unsatisfactory”.
The GHADC authorities have, in recent past, also questioned the legality of the employees’ union, which reportedly does not possess required registration under the Registrar of Societies, as is deemed mandatory.
The employees’ union, on the other hand, has accused the GHADC authorities of deliberate retaliation by way of suspension for demanding their salaries which have been pending.
“We are legally fighting for our dues which has been deliberately kept pending despite there being abundant funds available in the council, as declared by its EC, to the tune of around Rs 126 crore,” stated the union in a release.
