SHILLONG: After a prolonged delay and commotion, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) final semester examinations have been slated to begin from October 7, and the routine for the exams will soon be issued.
Informing this, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the state government, following discussions with NEHU, had written to the University Grants Commission (UGC) expressing its inability to conduct the final semester examinations within September 30 owing to the rising COVID-19 cases.
The government requested the UGC to allow examinations to be conducted in October with the commitment that results would be declared by October 30.
“The UGC replied and agreed to the date of examinations proposed by the state government,” Rymbui said.
NEHU has informed the government that examinations will be held on October 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16 and the results would be declared by October-end. The University will issue a notification in this regard besides ensuring that all measures are taken to ensure hiccup-free examinations.
The minister said that NEHU will have to adhere to all protocols in conducting the examinations.
Earlier, several NGOs and students had sought postponement of the final semester examination in September owing to the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the state.
