NONGPOH: In his first visit to Nongrim Jirang area on Monday, PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang laid the foundation stone of Nongrim Jirang Combined Water Supply Scheme (NJCWSS) sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at Rs 6.80 crore.
The scheme aims at providing household water connection that will benefit five villages of the area comprising 225 households.
Speaking on the occasion, the PHE minister said that the government is committed to provide water connection to over 20 lakh households during the year 2020-21 through the centrally-sponsored scheme JJM launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. The project will be completed by December, 2022, he informed.
Malngiang lauded the dedication and efforts of Jirang MLA that has helped in realising the dreams and aspirations of the local populace. He urged the villagers to extend full cooperation with the legislator so that many such developmental schemes will be initiated in the region.
Meanwhile, the minister expressed concern over rampant destruction of the environment, which is one of the major reasons why water sources dry and are shrinking day by day.
Local MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, in his address, informed that Jirang Constituency has witnessed several central projects amounting to Rs 270 crore. He also thanked the minister and the government for listening to the demands of the people.
