GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has arrested one person in connection with the alleged leak of the question paper that prompted cancellation of the written examination for 597 posts of sub-inspectors (unarmed branch) in Assam Police last Sunday.

Official sources informed that Hirakjyoti Barua has been arrested in connection with the CID P.S. case number 21/2020 under sections 120B/409 IPC R/W Section 66 B of the IT Act.

Barua was forwarded to the court on Wednesday.

“The arrested person was a candidate in this examination and had collected the answer sheet and forwarded it.  Investigation of the case is under progress,” a statement said.

The examination had commenced across 154 centres across the state on Sunday noon when it had to be cancelled after authorities took cognizance of the alleged leak of the question paper on social media (Whatsapp groups).

Meanwhile, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the chairman of State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Pradeep Kumar to conduct a re-examination within a month.

The chief minister gave the direction while taking stock of the developments in a review meeting held at his official residence here just after returning from New Delhi on Monday evening.

The chief minister directed the chairman to conduct the examination in the most transparent manner and declare results at the earliest.

He also instructed him to ensure that no such anomalies take place while conducting re-examination.

Sonowal also directed the DGP to identify the nexus which conspired to spoil the recruitment process and punish the culprits as soon as possible.
