SHILLONG: The A’chik Youth Council (AYC) has urged the state government to look into the matter of pending salaries of deficit teachers from South West Garo Hills.
In a statement, the AYC alleged that the government is targeting teachers in the state by issuing show cause-notices.
The council also recalled the government’s promise to give highest priority to education in the state and questioned why the salaries of the teachers were being delayed.
“Is this top priority? Why this delay, if the amount has already been released?” it asked and demanded that necessary steps are taken immediately.
Stating that teachers of South West Garo Hills have been without their salary for almost four months, the Council said that it had apprised the concerned authority of the issue through different channels but to no avail.
“Government should understand the hardships that teachers are facing during this pandemic and how they are complying with orders of the government despite salaries being delayed,” the AYC said, adding that the contribution of teachers in building human resource development should be recognised and their needs fulfilled at the earliest.
Earlier, the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (GHSTEA) had also raised the same issue with the Education Minister.
