GUWAHATI: The relentless drive by Assam Police against illegal arms and ammunition in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) yet again reaped dividends with the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition buried by the bank of a river in Baksa district on Friday night.
“Baksa Police in its efforts to make the district arms free has yet again recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines and 520 rounds of live AK ammunition on the night of September 25 near Sinari basti on the banks of river Diring under Barbari police station,” the state police force informed.
The recovery comes less than a week after a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was found hidden in a jungle area of Shantipur under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district.
It may be mentioned that the state police force has since the past couple of months intensified its campaign against such illegal arms in the four districts of BTAD, particularly at a time when elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council are poised to be held.
Assam Police, for its part, had pledged to further bolster its drive against illegal weapons and militant activities in BTAD.
Assam director general of police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had earlier this month said that the state police force has achieved remarkable success with a series of illegal arms recoveries in the four districts.
