SHILLONG: The Shillong Club management has come down hard on the public for trespassing on the golf course here stating that due to these “violators”, the entire city is put under threat of being infected by COVID-19.
The management threatened legal action, in collaboration with the Dorbars, against “trespassers” as well as arrest of violators by police. “This is the last notice to all trespassers,” it said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
In this regard, it also asked all adjacent and concerned Dorbars to make necessary announcements in their respective localities.
“Despite explicit orders issued by the Government of Meghalaya from time to time to check the spread of COVID-19, a large number of people are trespassing onto the golf course, congregating and moving around in groups and creating nuisance,” the management said while adding that illegal activities like drug abuse, alcohol and other anti-social activities have been detected inside the course.
“Meghalaya Police had also made certain arrests in this connection”.
Pointing out that the golf course is also being used by many people for morning walks, yoga, picnic, playing sports etc, the management said that situation is worsened during weekends as hundreds of people “illegally enter the private property”.
Lots of vehicles have also been found parked on both sides of the roads passing through the course, it added.
Stating that the golf course is a private property, the management said that these activities not only constitute violation of government protocols related to COVID-19, but also amount to illegal trespass on private property.
