Weapons seized in J-K
Jammu: Security forces on Sunday recovered some arms and ammunition during a search and cordon operation in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
A joint search operation was carried out by a special operations group of local police and 16 Rashtriya Rifles at Gali Girjjan in Surankote, leading to the recovery of an assault rifle with three magazines and 150 rounds along with a pistol, the officials said.
They said the arms and ammunition were found hidden at a secluded place in the remote area during the operation which was carried out on specific information. (PTI)
Two jumbos electrocuted
Bengaluru: Two male makhana elephants died of electrocution inside the Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) on the outskirts of the city, police said on Sunday.
Speaking to IANS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Ajay Mishra said that these two elephants aged about eight to ten years probably came to quench their thirst to this water body on Saturday situated in Chikkondanahalli lake near the Ramadevarabetta forest, which falls under the BNP range.
“Nearby lake’s bund 11kv high tension cables laid by Bengaluru Electric Supply Company runs through. It is found that two poles are tilted towards the water body. Maybe when these jumbos came here to drink water came in contact with live wire and died on the spot,” he explained. (IANS)
Bengaluru pubs raided
Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch police raided five pubs in the city as part of its crackdown against the drug menace. The searches were carried out on Saturday night, they said.
“In the drugs case investigation, we found that generally drugs are taken in some pubs. So, search warrants were taken and five pubs searched yesterday night,” Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said in a brief statement on Sunday.
Police have not shared any information on the outcome of the raids. (PTI)
Delhi schools to remain closed
New Delhi: In view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all schools in Delhi will remain closed till October 31, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Sunday.
According to the new guidelines released by the Centre, the state governments could open schools from October 15. However, it was up to the state governments concerned to take the final call. (IANS)
