JOWAI: The JHADC Chairman Obil Kyndait has decided to contest the State Assembly elections due in February-March as an independent candidate from Khliehriat.

Announcing this at a public a meeting held at Mukhaialong on Saturday, Kyndait, who won the last district council election on a Congress ticket, however, made it clear that he would not seek a party ticket this time.

“If voted to power I would work to generate employment for the jobless youth of Khliehriat, which is the headquarters of the newly created district of East Jaintia Hills,” he said.

After Kyndait’s announcement, Khliehriat is likely to witness a multi-cornered contest with two fellow MDCs — Amos Dkhar and Joinriwel and one Justine Dkhar in the fray.
