SHILLONG: The State Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on Thursday said that theoretically there is no hurdle in extending the service of the present DGP N Ramachandran, who is due to retire on October 31.

“However it is upto the Government to decide whether to appoint a full fledged DGP in view of the upcoming elections or to give extension to the incumbent,” Pariat said.

The State Government on its own can grant three-month extension to Ramachandran, yet the tenure can be extended for a total of six months with the approval of the Centre. The Chief Secretary said the Government would examine the issues related to the appointment of a new DGP in the days to come.

“Still there are two more months time for the present DGP to retire. The Government will exercise its mind to decide the matter in the due course of time,” Pariat added.
